#OpISIS 8.4

When we last left off with Christopher Doyon a.k.a. Commander X, it was mid-December 2010, and he had just infiltrated Anonymous via Operation Payback, taken credit for bringing down MasterCard and the Swedish Prosecutor’s websites, and used Anonymous’ IRC channels to recruit hackers for his personal operation against Santa Cruz, California.

Doyon had been living in Santa Cruz since approximately August 2009, and after successfully recruiting at least one other hacker, on December 16, 2010, he organized and led a DDoS attack against the county’s website, taking it down for approximately thirty minutes.

Prior to the attack, Doyon was living on the streets of Santa Cruz (the city) where he became a vocal agitator against the city’s cruel anti-homeless laws. He quickly caught the attention of Robert Norse, a well-known activist in the community, who invited Doyon to co-host his pirate radio show a few days after meeting. That arrangement occurred at least twenty more times between 2009–2010.

It should come as no surprise then that after Doyon staged his DDoS attack, he called into Norse’s show a few hours later. However, he didn’t call in as himself, he called in as Commander X and below is a transcript of what Doyon said.

The transcript begins with Norse’s comments about the homeless situation in Santa Cruz, which lead up to Doyon’s phone call. Aside from whatever Doyon motives were, Santa Cruz is fairly cruel to their homeless population and they have been for decades. This gives you a good idea of what Doyon was allegedly fighting.

In case you haven’t been following this series, Doyon was a member of the Peoples Liberation Front (PLF), an underground militia that appears to be entirely made up by Doyon. The group was led by Commander Adama, a fictitious figure that Doyon used as an alias.

Norse: We got a couple of interesting things coming up. A group calling itself the, uh, Peoples Liberation Front, hope I got the name right, has sent me an email saying you’re going to call in in about ten minutes…

They claimed to be responsible for, quote, ‘Taking down the county website around noon today’ and a protest around the county’s prosecution and persecution of homeless activists, specifically the Peace Camp 2010 activists who are facing, in theory, years in jail, six months per charge of the 647(e) charge of ‘Lodging,’ which is a kind of catchall charge used to harass homeless people outside, claiming that they are lodging if they fall asleep with their possessions next to them on public property. And then don’t move when asked though they have no place to move to.

And there was a three-month protest starting on July 4th of last year and I’ve talked a lot about that protest on the air, orchestrated by a number of folks, uh, HUFFF, Homeless United For Friendship and Freedom was there in force for the first week or so. Ed Fry, both an attorney and an activist…

The protest went on for three months with the purpose of bringing to the community’s attention and putting pressure on the city government to change its laws and police practices regarding how they treat homeless people at night…’

Norse went on to discuss the city’s lack of resources for the area’s homeless population and the extent to which the homeless are penalized for it, “$97 tickets, which, if unattended, become $397 tickets which, if unattended further, can result in a misdemeanor charge which is up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. So, its really a criminalization of poor people in visible places…” He then spoke about Peace Camp 8:

A lot of people are facing charges. The so-called Peace Camp 8 are individuals that face at least six months in jail for each charge of 647(e), the state penal code which criminalizes quote, ‘lodging.’

And their crime is that they were found asleep at night on the steps of the county building and they said, ‘We have a right to protest, we have signs, we have tables, we have petitions, and yes, we’re here at midnight but that’s because we have to sleep and we’re providing a safe zone for homeless people.

At approximately the 24:00 mark, the station phone started ringing. Norse answered:

Norse: Hey there, you’re on Free Radio.

Doyon: Greetings Mr. Norse, this is Commander X of the PLF.

Norse: Ah, it sounds like you’re, uh, -

Doyon: Before we-

Norse: Hi there, Commander X.

Doyon: Are you able to hear me okay, Mr. Norse?

Norse: I can hear you although I sense that you’re using a voice disguiser.

Doyon: Before we begin the interview, I would like to go over some things and then I will read a brief statement to your listeners and to your city.

Norse: Sure, go ahead.

Doyon: First and foremost, as a field operations commander I am in a very vulnerable position with regard to my personal security. This is especially true in the immediate aftermath of an action. I may have to disconnect at any moment and without notice.

Second, I would ask you and your listeners to get pencil and paper. I am going to read off to you two very short web addresses where you will find some very interesting information that can answer questions that you do not even realize you have.

The first url is as follows: PLF777.limewebs.com…Second URL: svtplay.se/b/2264028.

IRC chat logs revealed that Doyon was recruiting hackers in Anonymous’ Operation Payback channel the previous day using this exact web address, PLF777.limewebs.com. See #OpISIS 8.3. Doyon continued:

I will now read an official statement from the central command of the Peoples Liberation Front to the city and county of Santa Cruz:

The Peoples Liberation Front is now and has from its inception been a non-violent, pacifist group of freedom fighters. Never have we as so much been accused of an act of violence. Neither as a group, nor as an individual. No one anywhere has anything to be [unintelligible] from our group, that is, unless they are evil, criminal, or tyrants. Those have much to fear from us and they do fear us.

For over two decades we have used information and technology to battle in a nonviolent way to win justice and freedom for everyone.

Today’s action, as the county spokesman pointed out, did no harm. No [unintelligible] were injected, no databases were violated, and no hardware was damaged. And that will continue to be the case, I assure everyone. But there will be more attacks if the Peace Camp 8 are prosecuted.

The op commander for today’s actions was Commander Adama, our leader. He led the troops who joined with us for today’s action from our secret operation center in Massachusetts in the U.S.A.

I did not actually join in today’s action although I received minute by minute briefs from the op center. I was otherwise occupied doing deep research on your city and your county.

At precisely 12 noon Pacific time, the order was given to take down Santa Cruz county website, and at 12:01 it crashed under withering fire of dozens of High Orbit Ion Cannons from around the globe that were under PLF command.

Listen closely, these cyber lasers [HOIC] are available for download on the website I just gave you. They are relatively easy to use. And PLF advisors are always available online to assist.

I encourage all like-minded people who hear this: Download an HOIC and join us in action. It is your city, fight for it.

At precisely 12:30 P.M. Pacific time, the ceasefire order was given. At 12:32 P.M. Pacific time, the Santa Cruz website returned to normal function and became available globally to all our listening nodes.

Again, I urge you all to join us. Go to our site, download a laser and stand for human rights, human decency, and freedom in your community. The PLF is here to help, not to harm.

And finally, I call upon all of those who hear this: Help the Peace Camp 8. Please, write to your government leaders, go to city council meetings, dig deep until it hurts into your pockets for cash so they can defend themselves properly.

We actually have faith in your court system. We are not trying to influence your judicial system in any way Our research indicates that their judge will be more than fair and they do appear to have adequate representation. But the defense fund is essential. Please, look to your hearts and give. Some of these folks are desperately poor and the defense looks to be elaborate and expensive.

We do wish however to influence the prosecutor. We believe that this is a malicious prosecution that is politically motivated. We did not need to hack anything to figure that out. We just read your local news archives.

So please, if you are listening, prosecutor, it’s Christmas, for god’s sake. Drop these rotten and illegal charges against these humble, innocent, and terribly brave street people.

Free the Peace Camp 8. Thank you. You may begin the interview.

Hooboy, where does one even start? Well, first of all, despite Doyon’s attempt to disguise his voice, the software he was using failed to mask his heavy East Coast accent and even I recognized his voice simply from listening to a handful of Norse’s radio shows previously. I would be shocked if Norse-and the feds- didn’t recognize him immediately, or at least by the end of this show.

Second, as I reported previously, Doyon blamed the entire DDoS attack on Adama, a guy that never actually existed. But let’s say for the moment that he did exist. Doyon just snitched on the location for both his commander and secret operation command center. Additionally, at some point, he must have fed the media more details because one news outlet pinpointed the location of the PLF as headquartered in Cambridge, not just Massachusetts.

But this isn’t about Adama, it’s about Doyon and his admissions are some of the sloppiest and most careless behavior I’ve seen from a so-called hacker. He was literally the media liaison and spokesperson for Peace Camp 2010, and every activist involved, and every listener of Robert Norse’s radio show, knew that Doyon was from the East Coast. Why? Because he told everyone and even mentioned that he used to live in Cambridge.

He gave out his full name, his ex-wife’s name, and the name of his online radio station. He told Norse and his audience where he liked to camp and then mentioned that the local forest rangers knew who he was. And at the very end of this interview, he gave out his location which contradicted everything the so-called PLF told the media.

As for Doyon’s statement that he was busy doing research on the city during the attack, according to his 2017 book, this is apparently what he meant by research:

I was neck deep in the servers of the Santa Cruz City Police Department. With approximately one hour to go before the attack on the county servers, I had handed off command of that attack to Commander Adama so as to concentrate on my attempt to penetrate the police servers.

And no, I don’t believe for a second that Doyon has a clue how to hack a police department’s servers. I also don’t know where all of this “We are pacifists” nonsense is coming from seeing that Doyon himself said, and I quote, “I believe we burned a couple [of buildings] to the ground. They weren’t mink farms that we burned… the fuck did we burn? I think it was a lumberyard, or… fuck. I can’t remember now. There were a couple places that we set fires.”

The most disgusting part of Doyon’s call-in performance is that he used Norse for his radio show to recruit others just like he used Anonymous for their IRC channel. Worse, he repeatedly encouraged Norse’s entire audience to download (and use) the High Orbit Ion Cannon.

Ever hear of Brian Mettenbrink or see the 2012 documentary, “ We Are Legion?” Right, well here’s this naive college kid who decided to take part in Anonymous’ 2008 DDoS attacks against the Church Scientology:

I did the whole Low Orbit Ion stuff and then pretty much just went about my life after that for probably…six months. And then the FBI showed up.

Uh huh. Wanna know why? Because this poor kid had no idea how serious of a crime he committed by using an LOIC. He was looking at five years in prison and a $100,000 fine because no one in Anonymous bothered to warn him or anyone else.

I had no idea that it was any sort of this big crime to do what I did. I thought it was the kind of slap-on the-wrist, $200 fine type crime so I actually told them [the FBI] that I did it, at that point. Then it went from there. Jail.

Mettenbrink was so naive about what he had participated in that when the feds came a-knockin,’ he readily admitted that he participated in the DDoS attack. He was indicted in 2009, and plead guilty in early 2010. He was 20 years old at the time.

Now, here’s Doyon throughout Norse’s entire radio show, eleven months after Mettenbrink pled guilty:

Listen closely, these cyber lasers [HOIC] are available for download on the website I just gave you. They are relatively easy to use. And PLF advisors are always available online to assist.

I encourage all like-minded people who hear this download an HOIC and join us in action. It is your city, fight for it.

Again, I urge you all to join us. Go to our site, download a laser and stand for human rights human decency and freedom in your community.

As we told you in the statement, we distribute them. They’re available on our website and I encourage all of your listeners to go right now and [unintelligible] yourself. They’re easy to use and our advisors are standing by to help you. Download one, we aim them at the websites, and we fire the lasers, and the websites disappear.

Oh, lemme tell you something, right now at this very moment the download counter on my HOIC is clicking so I’m thinking this is residents of Santa Cruz taking up my call and by the time I’m done, there are so many hundreds of people who are going to download this piece of software that we will literally be able to control the entire internet of the county. We will take down any site at our will at our whim.

This is the very definition of a self-centered asshole. If you want to risk your freedom fighting injustice, be my guest. You’ll probably earn a base of support. But when you start preying on innocent and naive people, including activists, to do your dirty work by dragging them into your bullshit using lies, you’re an asshole, an informant, or both.

Doyon recruited hackers for his operation, he ran the operation, and at least one hacker he recruited was later arrested and charged. Then, he urged everyday Americans to download the High Orbit Ion Cannon and use it, a cyber tool that even he admitted was easy to use. And yet, not a single warning from Doyon about the legality of using it.

In fact, you’ll see in the next article that Doyon went so far as to state on the radio that not only was it LEGAL to use an HOIC, the feds weren’t even paying attention because they had “bigger fish to fry.”

Even more insane is the fact that Mettenbrink received a year in jail with a year of supervised release, the exact same sentence that Doyon received a month ago. This, after Doyon:

  • Has a long criminal history including a 1989 felony case that he fled from for almost five years after violating his supervised release
  • Recruited hackers to attack Santa Cruz
  • Launched a DDoS attack against Santa Cruz
  • Went on a radio show and tried to recruit the listening audience into downloading and using the HOIC
  • Threatened more attacks against Santa Cruz
  • Fled to Canada after he was indicted for the attack; went on the run for over a decade
  • While fleeing U.S. authorities, he ran other cyber operations including a DDoS attack against Orlando, Florida
  • At one point, he left Canada and fled to Mexico, where he was arrested and U.S. taxpayer dollars were spent to extradite him to the U.S.

And Mettenbrink got the same exact sentence as Doyon?? Make it make sense.

Not only that, Mettenbrink wasn’t allowed to touch a computer while he was on supervised release but it seems Commander X is already back online after U.S. prosecutors lied to a federal judge by burying his criminal record in their sentencing memorandum. And you wouldn’t believe what he’s tweeting about, lol.

Last, I know I keep saying this, but it’s really important to remember that there is not a shred of evidence that points to Doyon being a hacker prior to infiltrating Anonymous in late 2010. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Again, when it comes to cyber crimes, Doyon has never been charged with anything more than using an LOIC or HOIC, both of which your six-year-old kid could probably figure out in about five minutes.

If you were mentioned in this article because your associate(s) did or said something stupid/dishonest, that’s not a suggestion that you did or said something stupid/dishonest or that you took part in it. Of course, some may conclude on their own that you associate with stupid/dishonest individuals but that’s called having the right to an opinion. If I’ve questioned something that doesn’t make sense to me, that’s not me spinning the confusing material you’ve put out. That’s me trying to make sense out of something that doesn’t make sense. And if I’ve noted that you failed to back up your allegations that means I either missed where you posted it or you failed to back your shiz up.

If I haven’t specifically stated that I believe (my opinion) someone is associated with someone else or an event, then it means just that. I haven’t reported an association nor is there any inference of association on my part. For example, just because someone is mentioned in this article, it doesn’t mean that they’re involved or associated with everyone and everything else mentioned. If I believe that there’s an association between people and/or events, I’ll specifically report it.

If anyone mentioned in this article wants to claim that I have associated them with someone else or an event because I didn’t disclose every single person and event in the world that they are NOT associated with, that’s called gaslighting an audience and it’s absurd hogwash i.e. “They mentioned that I liked bananas but they didn’t disclose that I don’t like apples. Why are they trying to associate me with apples???” Or something similar to this lovely gem, “I did NOT give Trish the thumb drive!” in order to make their lazy audience believe that it was reported they gave Trish the thumb drive when, in fact, that was never reported, let alone inferred.

That’s some of the BS I’m talking about so try not to act like a psychiatric patient, intelligence agent, or paid cyber mercenary by doing these things.
